Children's Museum of the Highlands![]() |
Field Trips
AN IDEAL PLACE FOR A FIELD TRIPAs the only museum for pre school and elementary age children in five counties (Highlands, Hardee, Okeechobee, De Soto and Hendry), we offer young visitors a first museum experience, where they can learn about themselves and the world around them. The museums' educational exhibits can be used as a tool to reinforce concepts learned in school. These hands-on exhibits encourage children to use their senses to explore, discover, and experience new ideas and feelings.
ON GOING EXHIBITS
PICNIC AREAThe museum has fenced in, covered, picnic facilities available to field trip participants. Eight picnic tables can seat about 65 people. FIELD TRIP FACTSField trips are available either 8:45 - 10:15, 10:30 - noon or 12:15 - 1:45. This schedule allows three groups per day to enjoy the museum. The cost is $2.00 per child, chaperones are free. (These are field trip rates as regular admission is $3.00 per person including adults.) We ask for one chaperone per five children, HOWEVER, chaperones are not expected to keep the five together in the museum. We do ask that chaperones circulate in the museum and keep an eye on any field trip child that might need help. GIFT SHOPThe gift shop offers unique toys and games in all price ranges for kids of all ages. Three children at a time will be allowed in the gift shop during field trips. DEPOSITSNo deposit is required, but admission fee is due upon entry to museum. Grade levels coming on consecutive days may pay on the last day. PARKINGParking is available behind Sadie Kahn Park, in the First Union Bank lot and in the public parking behind the police station. Busses may briefly double park in front of the museum to load and unload children. HOW TO RESERVE A FIELD TRIPCall the museum Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.
